Panels and rails are usually removed first so the posts and fence line can be accessed. Attached gates, lattice, privacy screens and hardware should be included in the demolition scope rather than treated as separate surprises.

Posts can be easy to lift or deeply embedded in soil and concrete. The amount of buried material is often unknown until excavation begins, especially on older fences that have been repaired more than once.

Old concrete can occupy the exact locations needed for new posts. Removing or working around those footings should be considered before the replacement layout is finalized.

Large footings also affect labour, equipment access and disposal.

Wood, metal, vinyl, concrete and mixed debris may need to be separated or handled differently depending on the disposal route. The estimate should clarify whether disposal is included rather than assuming dismantled material will remain on the property.

A removal project should leave the line ready for the next stage. Loose fasteners, small pieces of concrete, broken boards and disturbed soil should be addressed as part of cleanup.

If the fence will be replaced, removal should be coordinated with the new post layout. Gate openings, changes in material and old footings can all affect where the new structure can be installed.

Can a fence be removed without replacing it immediately?

Yes. The scope can be limited to demolition, post removal, disposal and cleanup where the property owner is not ready to install a new fence.

Does fence removal include concrete?

It can, but the estimate should state that clearly. Concrete footings can add substantial work compared with removing panels and rails alone.

Can some existing posts be left for the new fence?

Possibly, if they are sound and compatible with the new layout and fence system. Reuse should be assessed rather than assumed.
